We welcome not only your attendance at our conferences, but your active participation. Presenting original work offers many advantages, whether a piece of your dissertation or related to your more general research agenda. The preparation challenges you to think through how best to make your case and defend your strategies; the presentation provides early exposure and visibility to potential employers and future colleagues, and; the social setting facilitates networking within the very circles that may lead to future employment or research collaboration.
In recognition of the limited budgets of many graduate students, we offer discounted registration fees to attend or present at a Sisu conference. Furthermore, we set aside presentation tracks within our conference schedule explicitly for presentations by graduate students, based upon an independent blind review of all student proposals.
The philosophy underlying our conferences and supporting services are compactly embedded within the URL to our website: ThinkSisu.Org:
We solicit ideas and insights, especially those that cross traditional borders.
Among thoughtful educators dedicated to their discipline, and especially among those interested in crossing discipline Silo to make a lasting difference, good ideas and insights consistent with available evidence often are not in short supply. Rather, the missing ingredient more likely is “sisu” – that unwavering commitment to persevere in exposing their work to public scrutiny by overcoming any obstacles, including time and funding constraints. We ease the latter obstacles for those in or near California.
However good the ideas, and however great your sisu, dissemination of ideas, like other products and services, are greatly facilitated by an effective delivery system. Sisu Advantage conferences, and the resultant proceedings and journal articles, help you share your ideas and insights.
